Education encompasses both the teaching and learning of knowledge, proper conduct, and technical competency. It thus focuses on the cultivation of skills, trades or professions, as well as mental, moral & aesthetic development. Politicisation on the education policy and protesting on the street such as what happened today is truly unfortunate and uncalled for.
What I am about to pen here is nothing about being supportive or against the suggestion that UiTM be opened to non-bumiputra. Though I am a bumiputra having studied in UiTM once upon a time, so did my other-half and 2 children. So I can safely say that we are very much patriotic to UiTM as those that took to the street today. I won’t comment this topic from the political point of view as I am no politician nor being patriotic as an ex-UiTM. I am only for “whatever is the best” for all Malaysian.
I’ve got a few lecturer friends in UiTM and I came to know that the suggestion to open the door to non-bumiputra has long been discussed by the UiTM board. It is nothing new and I was informed that all the UiTM staff knew this long time ago and thus it was actually a stale news altogether. It is not something that just cropped up yesterday when Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was asked to comment. The Selangor Menteri Besar only said he agreed to the suggestions that the university be opened to all. He had never said that he propose it.
However, it seems that Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has become the scapegoat when he commented on the suggestion. I consider whatever his comment, it was his personal view and nothing to do with his goverment as rightfully said by the PM “It is not within his jurisdiction of power. Matters pertaining to the intake (of students) lie with the educational institution concerned.”
So I wonder why the protest and demand for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to retract his statement when in the first place it was not him that suggested such move. It would be interesting to ask UiTM Vice Counselor, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Ibrahim Abu Shah whether such proposal had ever been discussed by the UiTM board or anyone else before this. If not, how come all the UiTM staff are aware of such talk donkey months ago?
As I have said earlier, I am not against or support the idea of opening UiTM to other non-bumiputra. Neither do I know Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim so much so as to defend or to seek justice for him. I would rather defend my state from being adulterated by PATI. Anyway, it is not a matter of defending or accusing anyone but rather it is just a matter of principal, justice and to share my personal views on what I believe is a misunderstood statement or picture regarding the whole episode. ( I reserve my comments on the above issue to a later date. So please feel free to ‘explore’ my mind on the issue. )

i am a UiTM staff, a lecturer ..and all the lecturers in my faculty does not have any knowledge regarding suggestion to open the door to non-bumiputra that has long been discussed by the UiTM board. I have been lecturing full time in UiTM for 8 years, some of my colleagues was with UiTM since 1980′s .. they too never heard the so called discussions, even my dean, and all my former deans never heard of it .
I am a UiTM student myself…
As your stand, I am neither agree with the suggestion nor opposing it.
But honestly, from a student point of view, I do believe that 10% is not that much. UiTM has around 200 000 students. 10% of it is 20 000. Bumiputras still have 180 000 students. Besides, unknown to many, 1% of the quota had already been opened to international students.
So, it is quite shocking when the newspaper reported that the administration of UiTM will never let non-bumis or foreign students to enrol into UiTM as there ARE international students already.
And as the statement from the MB, he is just saying that he agreed with the suggestion. Nevertheless, he still has no power whatsoever on that matter…
To Nasron, I thank you for leaving your comments on my artical regarding Opening Door- UiTM. Sad to note that you are unaware of such move when even “current student” is aware of such move. In fact he/she said that 1% of the quota had been opened.
It is either you are just pulling my leg that you are a lecturer/staff of UiTM or that you really don’t know anything what’s going on in your own back yard.
My sister-in-law is a lecturer in UiTM, Kota Kinabalu and I got this info from her and some for her lecturer staff. So definitly my source is reliable.
Thank you.
i guess bumi should leave their comfort zone….scared of competitions and at last bcome unemployed
comfort zone??so uitm is a comfort zone for bumiputra??
did they scared of competition? i don’t think so..
i have friends and sister that studying there..and me myself studying at one of malaysian top university..but sadly to say that uitm students seem more mature and open to the community than top university students..their works and assignment are much more harder than top university assignment…they have good public relation with people and much more surprise they can communicate in english much more well than students in UKM and UM…and for your information ( whoever ) most of them succesfully get their job much more faster than top list university students and with same salary as degree holders even they just have diploma from uitm e.g my sis and her friends…
don’t look down uitm students…
oh and yes..what we seems even people try to deny it..khalid is just a ‘boneka’ from DAP…tahniah…his agreement with the suggestion just shows that he lacks of knowledge of malaysian sensitivity and uitm history and achievement!
Some people are just jelous because UiTM produces good students. Some people thought that UiTM produces 3rd grade graduates, they also claimed that some of them has experienced working with these graduates and saying that these people cannot coup up with the job task given to them.
You see those “people” that they claimed from UiTM, are not actually from UiTM. They are from the lousy community college that has twinning programme with UiTM. Such colleges never provide proper training towards their students and also lack in educating.
Pure UiTM students are from the UiTM campus itself. Not from the community colleges. The reason why UiTM tight up deals with such colleges is unknown..
And PURE UiTM students are surely good in their work, studies, and also have very professional ethics. Eventho Im not UiTM students, but Ive seen how they work..and its fruitful..and I envy for not entering UiTM myself.
[...] of these are true, I wonder if those who had protested would be feeling rather stupid now. I read here that the UiTM board has been considering opening up enrolment to non-bumiputra and international [...]
to me it just seem strange that Sabahan Bumi Putera students would do this?
… … …
What is wrong having more non-bumis goin to UiTM? We are Malaysian, not tourist nor foreign students. We are suppose to achieve Vision 2020 together as Malaysians & not Chinese, Malay or Indian.
Are we missing the bigger picture?
dear mia , your inggeris tak boleh pakai , which TOP uni are you from??
sometimes, the truth is bitter to accept. as I said earlier, there are international students in uitm. i am law student and my faculty in shah alam campus shared the building with business faculty. and there are soooo many international students in business faculty. btw, international students = bumiputera?? naahhh….

correction : i am A law student…
Dear Current student, you are saying that there are foreign students in UiTM and that my argument was actually true lah!. So now have you ever wonder why the protest and shouting all about? Is your VC blind that he can’t see that the intake had all along being done? Funny isn’t it that UiTM VC was unaware of all these! If he disagreed on the non-bumiputra who are Malaysian…then why did he agreed to the foreign students? I can’t see the rational of all these except from the political point of view which I have mentioned in my views above.
Don’t you think that you students have been made used of? Don’t you think that is bad and unfair for students?
first of all, anakdesa, your statement is true. secondly, i supported your arguments because it is made out of facts rather than emotions. after all, the vc is like a man with no power. it is his university, he is the administrator and he can make the decision for the sake of the university. but then, maybe he does not want to lose his political career, so he has to listen to the instruction of his top leaders… (“,)
as a student of uitm……. i am agree. we are not talking about our right. we should looking forward. uitm is an institution. so, everyone deserve there. furthermore, having chinese and indian among us is good to create a healthy competition between us. i am agrre with tan sr abdul khalid ibrahim. looking forward for our nation……..!!!!!!!!!
allow me lo leave a comment meh:
Universiti ini tolong melayu….
10% means a lot meh..20000 bright yet poor kampung bumis will lose their oppurtunity to further their studies…plus they won’t be able to enter IPTS due to “financial” barrier…i repeat “financial barrier”….please do a survey about number of bumis in ipts….
So in future, we are about to produce another mat rempits, drug addicts and young thugs….syabas diucapkan.
It is not about whether you are in government or opposition camp.Tan Sri Khalid seems to say wrong things at the wrong time. Talking about admitting 10% quota for non bumis into uitm while the bumis are still mourning about their loss of political power, 30% increase of quota into mrsms (poor kampung children), loss of 45% of PSD scholarships, aggressive attacks against malay rulers and article 153 etc….
Why 20000 young and bright bumis have to give their place to others just for a politician’s sake? Didn’t PR realize that 10% non bumi intake into MRSM is one of the reasons why kampung folks voted against BN a year ago? Why did PR make the same mistake again?
His action is like pouring salt into a wound…..and he paid for it.
If you malay scholars are really concerned about national integration, then why only targeting uitm? how about racist vernacular and chung hwa schools? will non-bumis disband these useless, racist scholls and integrate their students into one national education system before they demand same thing for SBP, MRSM and UiTM? Why do bumis always have to make sacrifices and sacrifices while non-bumis don’t have to?
Please remind yourself and others, UiTM is a university, with a sole purpose of balancing the number of bumi professionals against non-bumis professionals esp chinese, so that there will be no racial gap in any pro sectors, no racial hatred/ dissatisfaction and finally no more 13th may 1969 clash.
UiTM is a balancing university. So apart form quality, quantity also matters.
Saya setuju dengan pandangan anda.
useless UiTm brag 3 class compare to other Grad

They commonly called me Malai, they know we are the Pribumi, they know that this land was belongings to the Malay Kings, and most of all they know the Malay weakness, that Malay is still far behind even in education…. Go back to colonial justification ” Best army wins” War is a fair engagement… so they fairly colonised the world…and so on. In the name of fair competition do we support all these ….?
