PUTRAJAYA (July 13, 2008): Arrests made by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) against even those holding influential positions in the government, shows the agency is taking action without fear or favour.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the arrest of several senior goverment officers recently shows the ACA is right on track in efforts to tackle corruption at all levels.
Abdullah said at the rate ACA is going, he is confident that more cases of corruption would be detected.
But I’ve also said to the ACA, do be careful and they must be sure (before making any arrest),” he told Bernama and Radio RTM in a special interview at his offcial residence Sri Perdana, on Saturday evening.
“Once an ACA officer walks into anyone’s office, it will be easy for people to make assumptions,” he said when asked to comment on the ACA arrest of the Immigration department director-general Datuk Wahid Md Don and his deputy Yusof Abu Bakar over the past three days.
The duo were among Immigration officials nabbed on suspicion of having received bribes in a racket involving work permits to foreign workers.
